TAP Announces 2023 Season

Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) has announced the lineup for its 2023 season: five shows – from new work to fun-filled classics – running from May to December.

The world premiere of I Carry Your Heart with Me by Jennifer Blackmer will take the stage May 12-28. In this work – presented as part of the inaugural World Premiere Wisconsin, an ambitious statewide festival celebrating original works – Esther Shannon is a government stenographer working for the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Lonely, conflicted and haunted by voices from her past, she finds herself in the middle of a troubling investigation.

TAP will present the bewitching, life-affirming musical Daddy Long Legs June 23 – July 9. In turn-of-the-20th-century New England, Jerusha Abbott is the self-proclaimed “oldest orphan in the John Grier Home.” When an anonymous benefactor comes forward with an offer to fund her college education, she glimpses only his shadow and dubs him “Daddy Long Legs.”

Boeing-Boeing – penned in French by Marc Camoletti and translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans – is a hilarious journey back to the swinging ’60s. American bachelor Bernard is living the high life in Paris, bouncing from one beautiful flight attendant to another, but all of his careful planning falls apart when an old school chum from Wisconsin and all three “fiancées” arrive in town simultaneously. Join the fun Aug. 4-27.

The regular season will wrap up with The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful Oct. 6-22. Lord Edgar, an Egyptologist, is newly married to Lady Enid and residing comfortably at Mandacrest Estate, but he has yet to recover entirely from the passing of his first wife, the eerie Irma Vep. Two nimble actresses quickly change back and forth among the roles in a world filled with vampires, ghosts, mummies and werewolves.

For the holiday season, TAP will present It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, adapted by Joe Landry, Dec. 15-31. With the help of a musician and foley artist, a top-notch ensemble of actors will bring to life a few dozen personalities during this replica of a 1940s radio broadcast. The entire family will enjoy this spin on one of America’s favorite films.
