TAP Announces Auditions for Kids Theater Camp

Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time for the fifth-annual “For Kids By Kids” Theater Day Camp at Third Avenue Playhouse.

Children ages nine through 14 are eligible to audition for the camp at any one of the four audition sessions. These sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10 from 1 – 3 pm and 6 – 8 pm at TAP. No advance preparation is necessary, and students will be asked to read from script copies.

This year’s camp will be supervised by Bill Bauernfeind and Renee Kujawski. The four-week theater workshop runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am – 2 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 – 4 pm beginning Monday, June 15. Tuition for the Day Camp is $20, as support for the 2009 camp is provided by Baylake Bank.

Workshop participants will be involved in all aspects of production including stage management, lighting and sound, set design and props. The camp will culminate with a full stage production of Night of the Living Beauty Pageant. Three performances will be held Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12.

Night of the Living Beauty Pageant tells of the comedy that ensues when two hucksters decide to stage The Miss Venus Beauty Pageant in order to attract sponsors and hundreds of high school lovelies who will pay a large entry fee and make them rich. Unfortunately, only seven girls enter and there are no sponsors. Complications abound for the con men, from a theater owner who wants them evicted to Knuckles Skinner who wants what he’s owed.
