TAP Features JET and Sweet Pepprika

The Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) in Sturgeon Bay will feature performances by JET and Sweet Pepprika this May.

JET, featuring Eric Lewis, Tommy Burroughs and Jimmy Davis, will perform Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30 pm. The trio from Memphis is familiar to Door County audiences. Lewis is a multi-talented instrumentalist who performs and records with some of the top Memphis artists. Burroughs has wowed audiences with his amazing fiddle, mandolin and guitar playing, winning the NARAS Premier String Player award in Memphis a record of seven times. Davis has been named “Premier Male Vocalist” five times by the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Diane Compton, Barbara Eulenberg and Mary Launder changed the name of their trio from Moonglow to Sweet Pepprika shortly after appearing at TAP in 2009. The group will perform on Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 pm.

Sweet Pepprika’s tribute to the Boswell Sisters, a popular New Orleans-based trio from the ‘30s, is a true labor of love. Since the vast majority of the Boswell arrangements no longer exist in written form, the trio had the original music transcribed by ear from worn vinyl records. In addition to preserving the Boswells’ style of music, the trio has created their own unique arrangements of standards and rarities from that era and beyond. Accompanied by guitarist George Sawyn, their repertoire includes music by Harry Warren, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Morey Amsterdam and more.

Tickets for both shows are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors & students and $8 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre box office at 239 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, over the phone at 920.743.1760, or by visiting http://www.ThirdAvenuePlayhouse.com. Tickets are also available at Dancing Bear, 13 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
