Taxidermy Demonstration At Historical Museum July 15

Master taxidermist Mike Orthober of Egg Harbor will be at the Door County Historical Museum from 10 am to 4:30 pm on July 15. He will take viewers through the entire process of creating a museum-worthy mount – from removing and preparing the skin to mounting the specimen in the exhibit. Orthober created the museum’s spectacular diorama “Season of Life” over a period of years and continues to add birds and other animals.

Orthober is well known in the taxidermy field, having won many national and worldwide awards, most recently “Second in World, Game Bird.” He was named taxidermist of the Year in 2004. In addition, he judges World Taxidermy Championships and teaches others his methods. If you can’t make it to this session, he will give one more demonstration Aug. 26.

The museum is open 10 am to 4:30 pm daily, May 1 through Oct. 31. The museum is located at 18 N. 4th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. Admission is free but donations are welcome and benefit museum exhibits and programming. For more information, call 920.743.5809 or email [email protected].
