Team Tom Runs for MSA

When Kathleen Mand Beck of Egg Harbor started taking part in the Cellcom Green Bay Half Marathon 10 years ago for charity, little did she think someday it would be for her husband, Tom Mand.

This year on May 18, five Door County participants – Kathleen, Judy Schumacher, Ann Athorp-Krech, Tina & Tim George – will join the half and full marathoners. Tom will be at the finish line cheering.

In August of 2013, Tom was diagnosed with a very rare disease that only 13,000 confirmed people have in the USA – Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). It is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a combination of symptoms that affect both the autonomic nervous system and movement. There is no remission from the disease and no current cure.

Dovetail Gallery, 7901 Highway 42, Egg Harbor, is accepting donations for MSA to help find a cure for this disease. There is also on online link, multiple-system-atrophy.org, to the MSA Coalition site to make a contribution in Tom’s name.
