Telling My Story

While I was jotting down notes for my next blog entry, someone asked me if I was nervous to put my writings out on the internet. A confused look washed over my face. “I mean, doesn’t it intimidate that you don’t know who is actually reading your blog?” she questioned. This question caught me off guard because it has never crossed my mind. I’ll write for one person or for 1,000; for my parents or for complete strangers. The number of readers doesn’t make a difference of whether or not I will write my blog. What truly matters to me is if I am able to share my voice, my perspective, and the visions that shimmer across my line of sight.

Whenever I travel, I try to see the beauty in all that is around me, even if it takes me out of my comfort zone. I have realized throughout my travels that just because I am comfortable with doing something in Ellison Bay doesn’t mean that it will fly in some other part of the world. Traditions have to be respected and new perspectives have to be seen. If my bus driver decides to take another route, I change my way of thinking – from worrying if they will stop in the right town to taking in the excitement of seeing something new, enjoying the unexpected daily adventures. I am here to learn and gather information to share with anyone who cares to listen.

Writing has the ability to sharpen my sense to the active culture around me. During my time in China, I will try my best to share with all of you my findings of the rural life of Xizhou and anywhere else I travel. Thanks to the incredible staff at the Pulse, I have the opportunity to share the visions that shimmer across my line of sight. Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to easily share my perspective. So three cheers to the staff at the Pulse who continually support their local colleagues who wander the greater global community!
