The Bottom of the Earth

Photography by Daniel Anderson.

Daniel Anderson’s special photography show “Images From the Bottom of the Earth” will open at Cottage Row Gallery Sept. 13 with a meet-the-artist reception from 10 am – 1 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Anderson is a photographer from Door County living in Ellison Bay. He is the founder of the Door County Creative Photography Workshops, teaching fine art digital printmaking. He teaches additional workshops at The Clearing and at the Peninsula School of Art. He also leads photographic tours to many exciting locations in many parts of the world.

He began his photographic career after studying with Ansel Adams by making finely crafted black and white prints with an 8×10 view camera. He has evolved into digital printing using the latest high-end digital equipment and technologies.

In 2013 and 2014 Anderson went on two photography trips to places he had wanted to visit for decades – the southern Chilean Patagonia mountain region and Antarctica. This is what the show is all about. Anderson says, “These places require a real commitment to get to in terms of miles and travel time. I went there anticipating making photographs of ice and mountains and I was not disappointed but it turned out to be much more richly diverse than I had originally thought. Most of the photographs were made from moving platforms such as small boats, ships and small zodiacs but some were found while hiking and even by the sides of the road. I photographed these exotic landscapes both looking at the big scene aspect but also examining the more intimate details.”
