The Bulletin: Coming Up

• The State Department of Transportation announced that the new Maple to Oregon St. Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will open on the hour beginning in June. Before then it will open on demand.

• The Village of Egg Harbor is considering changes to speed limits through the village. Village Administrator Josh Vanlieshout said any changes must go through the Wisconsin DOT. The speed at the village entrances is currently 40 mph, and 30 mph through the heart of the village. Some would like to see it lowered to 30 mph and 25 mph, respectively.

• Jacksonport area civic groups and organizations will meet April 8 at the Jacksonport Town Hall at 6:30 pm to discuss community marketing funds and how they can be used. Joe Jarosh will present and distribute information.

• A bill to regulate food production is under consideration by the House Agriculture Committee. The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (HR 875) would establish a Food Safety Administration and separate the regulation of the food supply from the regulation of drugs.

Small farmers say the bill gives yet another competitive advantage to large factory farms by requiring increased certification, record keeping, and expense.

The bill was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, whose husband works for one of the world’s largest factory farmers, Monsanto.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation announced details for their annual investors meeting and luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, at noon at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. The keynote speaker will be Terry Ludeman, retired Chief Economic Advisor for the State of Wisconsin. His remarks will be discussing “Looking Toward the Post-Recession Economy.”

This year’s annual meeting celebrates the 20th anniversary of DCEDC. In addition to the keynote address by Ludeman, the meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The luncheon will also include the annual report to the community about the accomplishments of DCEDC during 2008.

A pre-luncheon networking session with Terry Ludeman will take place from 11:15 – 11:45 am. Tickets are $25 per person or $225 for a table of ten. For more information, contact DCEDC at 920.743.3113 x200 or email [email protected].
