The Bulletin: Coming Up

Democrats take control of the Wisconsin Assembly for the first time since 1994. They’ll face a budget shortfall expected to reach $5.4 billion in 2011. Governor Jim Doyle’s budget will come out in early February. Doyle is floating the idea of upping the cigarette tax and re-enacting automatic gas tax increases.

• The Sturgeon Bay Parks and Recreation Committee is recommending growing a community garden at Amity Field. The food grown would go to families and the needy.

• Habitat for Humanity of Door County continues to work on bringing affordable housing to Sister Bay. Due to the small response to last summer’s surveys, the organization has determined they will not be the primary developer of Water Tower Place, but hope to be involved in some capacity. The Village of Sister Bay is continuing to investigate ways to create housing, including raising the Habitat income qualifications in the Gibraltar School District.

• An informational hearing will be held Jan. 21 for the proposed $7.9 million Egg Harbor marina reconstruction and expansion project. The hearing is at 6 pm at the Bertschinger Center in Egg Harbor. It will be videotaped, and copies will be available at the library and on the village Web site. The Wisconsin Waterways Commission has approved a grant of $1.185 million to help pay for the project. Village residents will vote on the proposal in a Feb. 17 referendum.

• Members of Congress receive a $4,700 pay raise this month, bringing annual pay to $174,000. Eighth Congressional District Representative Steve Kagen voted against the raise and will donate his to the N.E.W. Community Clinic and Fox Cities Community Health Center.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation is offering monthly office hours at the Sister Bay Fire Station, providing business counseling and entrepreneurial services. • The Sister Bay Village Board meets Tuesday, Jan. 13, and the Plan Commission will meet Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Sister Bay Fire Station at 220 Mill Rd.

• The next Liberty Grove Town Board meeting is Jan. 21 at 7 pm. The Plan Commission meets Jan. 26 at 7 pm.

• The Egg Harbor Village Board meets Monday, Jan. 12 at the Bertschinger Center at 6 pm, and the Plan Commission’s next meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6 pm.

• The Sevastopol Town Board meets Jan. 19 at 7 pm.
