“The Christmas Schooner” – A Musical

The Christmas Schooner, will be performed on Washington Island on December 1 at 7:30 pm and December 2 at 2 pm. Tickets prices are adults $12 and children $6.

Based on historic events, The Christmas Schooner is a fictional account of a 19th Century Great Lakes captain who is intent on sailing the schooner, the Molly Doone, over the treacherous winter waters of Lake Michigan in order to bring the Tannenbaum (the Christmas tree) to the thousands of immigrants in Chicago who otherwise would have no tree. This musical is based on the book by John Reeger with Music and Lyrics by Julie Shannon. This is a heart-warming story of love, courage, generosity and heroism and the importance of family and tradition performed to music.

Everyone involved with the musical can’t begin to thank Mary Gearen, Michael Frisch and Kathi O’Connor for their leadership and long hours in rehearsal to make this event happen and to Carolyn Lyons, Merrill and Donna Lundberg and Door County Memorial Hospital for helping financially, and to our multi-talented Island friends who have put many hours into rehearsing this musical. It is our hope that it will become a holiday tradition here on our Island.
