The Clearing Folk School of Door County Hosts Free Hiking Tours

The history, folklore and landscape of The Clearing Folk School will be the subject of free interpretive hiking tours of its historic buildings and campus, led by volunteer docents. The two-hour hiking tours will begin at 1 pm on select Saturdays and Sundays through October. Attendees are asked to meet at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay, where maps are also available. The terrain is rugged in places, and sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

Docent-led hikes will take place August 13, 14, 20, 27, 28, September 3, 11, 18, 24, 25, October 1, 2, 8, 9, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30.

In addition, Campus Open House hours will be held every Saturday and Sunday (through October 30) from 12 – 4 pm, and the public is invited to visit The Clearing’s historic campus area during these hours. Visitors are welcome to the Jens Jensen Visitor Center Monday through Friday from 8 am – 4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 4 pm.
