The Depot Celebrates Anniversary

Lola DeVillers and Stuart Champeau in “Policy.”

“There’s a new performing arts center in Door County taking up residence at an old train station.” Those were the words that rang out one year ago. The Depot Performing Arts Center opened its doors Nov. 22, 2013, at 341 N. 3rd Avenue in Sturgeon Bay; the former site of the Ahnapee and Western Railway depot.

Rogue Theater’s co-founders, Lola DeVillers and Stuart Champeau partnered with Sturgeon Bay’s historic train depot, owned by Tom Alberts and Mark Feld, in order to bring a unique performing arts center to Door County. DeVillers and Champeau’s vision for The Depot Performing Arts Center is a space where all forms of entertainment and art come together, including community and professional theater, music, dance and visual arts.

During its first year, The Depot has presented numerous comedies, dramas, mysteries and improv. They’ve also hosted various music groups, artists, and actors labs, as well as Christmas parties and baby showers. It is truly a venue for the community.

DeVillers and Champeau are excited to be part of one of Sturgeon Bay’s most historic sites. The Depot PAC is currently hosting the world premiere of Policy, now through Nov. 30. They invite the community to join them, and all the performers who have graced The Depot stage, in celebration of this one-year anniversary Saturday, Nov. 22, following the evening’s performance of Policy. Food and refreshments will be provided.
