The Dickinson Poetry Series Combines Poetry and Music

The musical duo of Bruce Dethlefsen and Bill Orth will perform as Obvious Dog on Wednesday, May 11 as a part of the UU Fellowship’s Dickinson Poetry Series. Dethlefsen and Orth play background for Cathryn Cofell’s poetry reading from her CD, Lips. The program will begin at 7 pm.

Cofell, whose poetry and essays have been published internationally, is author of five chapbooks. She has received the John Lehman Poetry Prize from Wisconsin People & Ideas, the WI Academy Outstanding Poem Award for two consecutive years, the Jade Ring from the Wisconsin Regional Writers Association, and numerous Pushcart Prize nominations. Her chapbook, Kamikaze Commotion (Parallel Press) is being “taught” at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Obvious Dog has been playing original blues and jazz music together since 2001. Dethlefsen, from Westfield, WI, sings, plays bass guitar, harmonica, and percussion. He is also the current Poet Laureate of Wisconsin. Orth, Human Services director for Sauk County, WI, sings and plays guitar and bass.

The Dickinson Poetry Series is held the second Wednesday each month, offering an opportunity for both experienced and new poets to share their works. The series is free and open to the public.
