The Door Community Auditorium Presents Bobby Vinton in Concert

A multi-talented singer, musician, and actor, Bobby Vinton has sold more than 75 million records and been awarded over a dozen gold records in the span of his 46-year career. On Friday, August 29, the performer Billboard Magazine named “the all-time most successful love singer of the ‘Rock Era’” will appear on the Door Community Auditorium stage in a one-night only performance. It will be an unforgettable evening of Bobby Vinton’s classic love songs including “Roses Are Red,” “Blue Velvet,” and “Mr. Lonely.”

Bobby Vinton was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, the son of a locally popular bandleader, Stan Vinton. As a young boy, Vinton’s parents encouraged him to study music and by the age of sixteen he had formed his first band. While attending Duquesne University, Vinton gained proficiency on a number of instruments including piano, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, drums and oboe. He graduated with a degree in musical composition and recently received an honorary Doctoral degree in music from his alma mater.

Following a brief stint in the army, which served as inspiration for one of his biggest hits, “Mr. Lonely,” Vinton and the band he formed appeared on Guy Lombardo’s “TV Talent Scouts.” A subsequent four-week appearance on the show landed him a contract with Epic Records, the label that released Vinton’s first single, “Roses Are Red.” It was the song that launched his extraordinary career as a vocalist. The record climbed to the number one spot on the record charts and eventually sold over four million copies.

“Roses Are Red” was just the beginning. It was followed by a long string of hits, among them “Blue On Blue,” “There I’ve Said It Again,” “Please Love Me Forever,” “Tell Me Why,” “Sealed With a Kiss,” “Everyday of My Life,” and “I Love How You Love Me.” Over the course of his career, Vinton’s recordings have become classics, recognizable throughout the world.
