The Eclipse Gallery Opens in Algoma

“Grandma Marian” by Molly Keyser.

The Eclipse Gallery in Algoma is opening after a large renovation project to their 100-year-old brick building in downtown Algoma. The public is invited to the artist’s reception of their first exhibition, “Personality:  Real & Imagined,” on the evening of August 1, 5:30 – 10 pm. The event is free and refreshments will be served.

On opening the new gallery, owner and curator Sarah E. Condon states, “Art isn’t about the location, or how populated an area is. To me, art is about curating exhibitions that are thought-provoking and exciting to viewers, and supporting working artists. Art is everywhere.”

She continues, “The Eclipse Gallery is a blend between old and new, art and craft, small town and metropolitan. We want people of all ages to feel welcome here. Along with the gallery and shop, we will also have a children’s art studio where kids can come and create for free.”

“Personality:  Real & Imagined” is a group exhibition of contemporary art. The show features five diverse artists who explore personality in relation to their work. Artists in the first exhibit include Molly Keyser, a photographer from Green Bay; Sher Christopher, a sculptor from England; Liz Gresey, a photographer from Chicago; Justin Madson, an illustrator and comic book creator from Baraboo; and Adam Koenig, a photographer from Green Bay. The exhibition will run through mid-September.

“We are happy to be presenting some very exciting and thought-provoking contemporary artwork in Algoma,” says Condon. “We aim to bring something new to the art scene in Northeast Wisconsin – the art speaks for itself.”

Along with their focus on contemporary art, The Eclipse Gallery is also presenting handmade craft and design in a separate section of their gallery.

Condon states, “We feel it is important not only to create art, but to have venues for people to sell the things they create. Half of our space is dedicated to the handmade – we sell art, craft, and goods that are 100 percent handmade by working artists.”

The Eclipse Gallery is located at 507 Fourth St., Algoma. For more information, call 920.487.8060, email [email protected] or visit http://www.theeclipsegallery.com.
