“The Flavors of Provence” Explores the Culinary Delights of Southern France

With a passion for food and a desire to share culinary creativity, Janice Thomas established Savory Spoon, the first year-round cooking school in Door County, in 2004. In the four years since Savory Spoon premiered, Thomas has featured an array of classes showcasing summer salads, chic vegetarian, elegant Asian, pasta galore, and fragrant India.

Located in a charming historic 1879 schoolhouse in Ellison Bay, Savory Spoon features guest instructors and food experts whose areas of expertise include cheeses, fresh grown produce, cuisines from around the world, and new techniques in food preparation.

“Good food produces such pleasure. And cooking is a wonderful opportunity to share the kitchen with friends, and participate in the camaraderie of cooking,” Thomas related.

Enhancing Savory Spoon’s onsite cooking experience, Thomas organizes culinary excursions. This spring Thomas will lead a small group to southern France. “The Flavors of Provence” is a seven-day trip through one of the most beautiful and taste tantalizing regions of Europe. Students will visit professional teaching kitchens, local markets, and specialty shops. Immersing themselves in the extraordinary cuisine of the region, students will participate in hands-on cooking classes.

Lodging will be provided in a restored 18th century Provencal stone farmhouse. In addition to an extraordinary epicurean experience, students will have free time to relax in the sun, enjoy lunch poolside, and visit local villages for shopping.

The response to Savory Spoon cooking school and excursions has been overwhelmingly positive and Thomas couldn’t be more pleased.

“I love sharing my knowledge of food. Cooking doesn’t have to be scary; it should be exciting – an adventure – and that’s what I do at Savory Spoon,” the Wisconsin native shared. “It’s so rewarding when my students tell me ‘you made it look so easy.’”

“The Flavors of Provence” will depart for Saint Remy-de-Provence, France on May 13 and return on May 18. The registration deadline is March 13. For additional information or to access an application form visit: http://www.savoryspoon.com or contact Savory Spoon at 920.854.6600.
