The Garden Door Open House

The Door County Master Gardeners Association will host the annual Garden Door Open House on August 2 from 1 – 4 pm. The Garden Door is a public garden created and maintained by the Door County Master Gardener Volunteers in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin Peninsular Agricultural Research Station and is located at 4312 Highway 42, approximately one mile north of the intersection of Highways 42 and 57 on the north side of Sturgeon Bay. This event is free and open to the public.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the newly installed interactive Garden Kaleidoscope, which was designed and created by Sturgeon Bay artist Robert Anderson. It can be found at the entrance of the Garden Door.

Back by popular demand will be the Pesto Festo. Pesto Festo activities will take place between 1 and 3:30 pm. All are invited to enter pesto samples, which will be judged by both a panel of judges and the public. Prizes will be awarded. For additional information regarding pesto entries contact Barbara or Doug Henderson at 920.743.9026.

Noted herbalist Jane Knaapen Cole from Green Bay will join the festivities again this year. Her focus will be on edible flowers and she will supply us with samples, recipes and many entertaining stories.

Door County Master Gardener Volunteer Mary Gehm will be showing guests how to press flowers, herbs, and leaves, and how to use them to make cards, pins, and pieces of art.

University of Wisconsin Peninsular Agricultural Research Station Superintendent Dick Weidman will also be on hand to answer questions about the station and to provide wagon tours of the station.

All this will take place in the setting of our beautiful Garden Door. Guests can enjoy walking in the garden and being treated to herbal cookies and punch. Door County Master Gardener Volunteer Doug Rossberg will enhance the experience with guitar music.
