The Last Hurrah for the Jana Nyberg Group

The Jana Nyberg Group will make its last Door County appearance of the season at Gallery 42 in Juddville, Saturday, August 30. For those who haven’t heard this talented young jazz ensemble at the Mission Grille’s Friday night jazz or Wednesday evenings on the patio at Gordon Lodge, this is the last chance to hear them before they disband for the season.

The art and music jam at Gallery 42 provides a different opportunity for the group. Typically, their repertoire consists of jazz standards and jazzed-up arrangements of popular tunes along with a few originals. This Saturday, from 1 – 4pm, attendees will hear members of the ensemble performing stream-of-consciousness music – improvised on the spot – based on suggestions of mood, color, or perhaps a selection of poetry. All the while, gallery owner, Tim Nyberg (father of Jana, the groups’ vocalist and flutist) will be painting what he hears in the music. Seeing and hearing art being created simultaneously is a very entertaining experience.

The last scheduled art and music jam will take place next Saturday, September 6, with the return of Door County’s favorite sax man and chameleon vocalist, Woody Mankowski.
