The Latest Mystery

Mystery author Patricia Skalka will sign copies of her newest book at Cinnamon Windmill in the Main Street Shops, Egg Harbor, on July 5, 11 am – 2 pm. Skalka introduced her series character Dave Cubiak, a former Chicago homicide detective in her first book, Death Stalks Door County. In the new book, Death At Gills Rock, Cubiak, now county sheriff, is challenged to solve the deaths of three World War II veterans in a mysterious accident at the tip of the peninsula.

As she did for her debut Door County novel, Skalka is winning praise from esteemed writers for this second effort. Robert Goldsborough, a former Chicago Tribune editor and author of the recent Nero Wolfe series, called the book “a compelling, complex whodunit saturated with long-ago sins and festering hatreds. The author skillfully uses as her backdrop an outwardly idyllic corner of Wisconsin.”

A native of Chicago who has maintained a cottage in Door County for many years, Skalka has had an award-winning nonfiction career.
