Hundreds of runners will head to Gills Rock Saturday morning to take part in Door County’s longest run of the year, the Fall 50.
The race will feature 504 relay teams and 80 solo runners this year. Runners start at the Shoreline Restaurant and head south, hugging the Green Bay shoreline down a course of fall colors all the way to Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay, where a massive post-party tent full of Sonny’s Pizza, soda, beer and wine awaits.
The first runners will take off at 7 am, and the final finishers hit Sunset Park just before 6 pm. Last year’s top solo finisher was Mark Jasper, who finished in 6 hours, 33 minutes. Carolyn Smith was the first woman to finish, taking 7 hours 18 minutes. The average solo runner finished in 9 hours, 19 minutes. The top team finished in 5 hours, 18 minutes in 2017.
