The Ridges Hosts Early Birders Program and Creatures of the Night Hike

The next Early Birders program at The Ridges Sanctuary will focus on bird migration. The program will take place October 8 at 10 am at The Ridges’ Marshall Cabin in Baileys Harbor.

Early Birders programs are designed for families with children ages 6-11, but younger or older children are also encouraged to attend. Each monthly meeting will include birding activities, crafts, birdwatching hikes, special guests (both human and avian), and more. For a one-time fee of $15, each family will receive a copy of Wild About Wisconsin Birds and a Door County bird checklist. The drop-in fee for a program is $5 per family. Monthly meetings will be held at different locations in Door County.

On October 14, The Ridges will offer a chance for families to meet with some “Creatures of the Night” from 6:30 – 8 pm. The cost is $10 per family (one or two adults and their children under 18). The program is limited to 20 participants, so pre-registration is required. Call the Northern Door Y at 920.868.3660 or The Ridges Sanctuary at 920.839.2802 to register.

“Creatures of the Night” is an informative event, not a scary one. Families can look at the moon and stars, learn about animals through activities in the Marshall cabin, gather around the campfire, and of course, take a short hike.

“Creatures of the Night” is a part of The Ridges’ No Family Left Inside effort in cooperation with the Northern Door YMCA and the Baileys Harbor McArdle Library.

The Ridges Sanctuary is located at 8288 Hwy Q, just off Hwy 57, in Baileys Harbor. For more information call 920.839.2802 or visit http://www.ridgessanctuary.org.
