The Ridges of Door County Focus on Dragonflys

Dragonflies will be the focus of two educational programs at The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor. A lecture by Paul Burton entitled “Dragonfly Drama” will take place July 7 at 7 pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.

July 8, Burton and Ridges Naturalist Karen Newbern will lead the annual dragonfly workshop and field trip, weather permitting. After a brief introduction to dragonflies, the group will carpool to Moonlight Bay and hike the shoreline and stream bank near Pickerel Pond. Along the way, participants will net and examine dragonflies, hopefully including the Hine’s Emerald. There will be opportunities for close-up investigation and photos.

The Ridges Sanctuary is located just north of Baileys Harbor at 8288 Hwy Q. Naturalist-led hikes are offered at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm, Tuesday – Friday, and 9:30 am on Saturday. For more information call 920.839.2802 or visit http://www.RidgesSanctuary.org.
