The Ridges of Door County Offers Various Hikes and Programs

The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor will continue its regular schedule of bird hikes on June 11 with two hikes: a “Discovery Bird Hike” at 6:30 am and a “Not So Early” birders hike at 9 am. Both hikes, designed for beginning and experienced birders, will begin at the Ridges Nature Center. The hikes are free for Ridges members; donations are requested for nonmembers.

“Discovery Bird Hikes” are held every Saturday morning in June and July at 6:30 am, while the “Not So Early Bird Hikes” are scheduled for June 11, July 9, and August 13.

Also on June 11, the Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay will host the Early Birders Club’s next program featuring a variety of birds’ eggs at 10 am.

The club meets monthly, with a focus on families with children ages 6 – 11. Each meeting will include birding activities, crafts, birdwatching hikes, and special guests (both human and avian). There is a $15 family membership fee, which includes a copy of Wild About Wisconsin Birds and a Door County bird check list. There is a “drop-in” fee of $5 per family. Monthly meetings are held at different locations in northern and southern Door County

The Ridges Sanctuary is located just north of Baileys Harbor at 8288 Hwy Q. Naturalist-led hikes are offered at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm, Tuesday – Friday, and 9:30 am on Saturday. For more information call 920.839.2802 or visit http://www.RidgesSanctuary.org.
