The Ridges of Sanctuary to Host Wisconsin Naturalist Class

Registration for Wisconsin Naturalist class, coordinated by The Ridges Sanctuary, is now open.

Any adult who is interested in Door County’s environment and natural resources is invited to the class, which starts Sept. 8. All you need is a fascination with the natural areas of Door County and a desire to learn more about wildlife and natural resources.

Wisconsin Naturalists attend 25 hours of classroom training, and 10 hours of field work to learn about geology, plant communities, ecosystems and land management. After completing their training, participants commit to volunteering their time and expertise to area natural resource organizations, in a variety of roles. Advanced training classes are also offered to those who have completed the initial program.

The 2011 Wisconsin Naturalists Program will be held at Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek. Classroom sessions are from 6 – 8:30 pm on Thursday evenings, and run Sept. 8 through Nov. 10. Two all-day field trips are also scheduled. Cost is $150, which covers all classroom and field trip sessions, handouts and other resources.
