The Ridges Sanctuary of Door County Hosts Spring Programs

The Ridges Sanctuary of Baileys Harbor will host a variety of programs and activities throughout the month of May.

Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, guided wildflower hikes will take place at the Logan Creek Property. The 90-minute hikes will be led by Ridges Naturalist Karen Newbern beginning at 1 pm. Participants will meet at the parking lot at 5724 Loritz Road, just south of Jacksonport on Highway 57. The cost is $5 for adults and free for children under 18. Preregistration is requested.

The Ridges is holding a Work Day on Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 am – noon. Members and non-members of all ages are invited to help with a variety of indoor and outdoor projects at The Ridges. The event will also feature wheelbarrow rides. The staff will serve lunch at noon.

Friday, May 13 at 6 pm, The Ridges will host a Frog Walk as a part of “No Family Left Inside.” Participants will learn about frogs’ lifestyles and learn to identify some of their songs. The cost is $10 per family and pre-registration is required.

Saturday, May 14, The Ridges with begin their regular schedule of bird hikes. The “Discovery Bird Hike,” which will also take place May 21 and every Saturday in June and July, will begin at 6:30 am. The “Not So Early Bird Hikes,” which will also take place June 11 and July 9, will begin at 9 am.

The “Early Birders Club,” a new program for kids and their parents, will meet on Saturday, May 14 at 10 am at Sevastopol School in Institute. Held at different locations throughout Door County, each monthly meeting will include birding activities, crafts, bird watching hikes, special guests and more. There is a $15 family membership fee, which includes a copy of Wild About Wisconsin Birds and a Door County bird checklist.
