by JULIE GILBERT, President and CEO, Destination Door County
Thanksgiving is a time to be with our family, friends and neighbors to acknowledge the good that we experience every single day, and to give thanks for what we appreciate. We are so fortunate to live in this part of the world when there are so many global challenges throughout. I would like to take this time to give thanks to so many who have helped our county and organization throughout this past year.
Thank you to the Peninsula Pulse for the opportunity you have provided Destination Door County in writing this column every month. It has allowed us to explain the various elements of the visitor economy and how it contributes to Door County’s economic foundation. We are looking forward to the continued partnership.
Thank you to our Destination Door County board of directors and our Door County Tourism Zone commissioners for working together and identifying needs throughout our community where we can help and provide assistance.
Thank you to our community business associations, whose staff members work tirelessly for the benefit of their business members and municipalities. The positive impact resulting from the events, activities and festivals they produce with such passion supports and fosters community pride, encourages economic impact and brings everyone together to cultivate a diversity of people, talent and interests.
Thank you to the Destination Door County team, which works hard to support all of us throughout the county and all the communities where we live, work and play. There is no “I” in “team,” and by working together, we are on our way to becoming a more inclusive and community-shared values organization that highlights destination alignment, sustainability and values-based marketing – the pillars in our 2023 Strategic Plan.
Thank you to the partners, businesses and organizations that we work with throughout Door County. You have all been so encouraging, and we are grateful for that every single day. Your hard work supports our residents and visitors and provides additional visibility for our county by doing good things for others.
An example of this is Door County Candle Company in Carlsville, which will continue to support Ukraine with a new initiative. Because of so many power outages throughout Ukraine, the company will send a candle to that country with every purchase of its Ukraine candle. The candles will be used as a source of light, while also providing a sense of hope and support.
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and hopeful. It is a time to show we care. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and enjoy your time together.
