Third Avenue Playhouse Announces Fall 2017 Education Series

Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) announces the class schedule for the Fall Education Series, taking place Sept. 9 – Nov. 12. Whether you are an actor interested in improving skills, a playwright working on a new piece, or a community member interested in discovering the ways theater can improve your life, there is something for everyone at the year-round professional theater in downtown Sturgeon Bay.

TAP offers both classes and workshops. Are you looking for a weekly class to build you skills over a period of time? Check out their class offerings. If interested in building a specific skill set, or on a budget, workshops are the way to go.

Kindergarten through middle school students can go to TAP on Saturdays throughout the fall season to learn theater skills through games, improvisation, and ensemble building exercises in the classes: Theater Games, Elementary Acting Lab and Middle School Acting Lab. High School students may hone their skill in the High School Acting Lab on Tuesday evenings. The classes are taught by Amy Ensign and Richard Carlson. Due to a generous donation from Dennis and Bonnie Connolly to the StageKids education program, class fees range from $25 to $45. Call 920.743.1760 for more information or to register.

Adult playwrights and actors can choose between the popularActing for Stage and Screen taught by Spencer Milligan and “Playwriting Lab, led by Paulette Laufer and Richard Carlson on Monday evenings.

New to TAPs schedule is a series of workshops taught by Second City instructor and Peninsula Players actor Erica Elam. Take “Beginning Improvisation” on Sept. 18, 6-9 pm, to improve public speaking or be introduced to the basics of improvisation with a focus on support, teamwork, bravery, silliness and fun. For experienced actors, the emphasis inAdvanced Improvisationwill be placed on emotional bravery and honest scene work. This workshop is Oct. 9, 6-9 pm.

Never been on stage? Never want to? No problem! Try Erica Elam’s Improv for a More Joyful Life” Oct. 7, 9 am – 12 pm. Scientific research tells us that the happiest people have the following in common: they laugh, express gratitude, live in the moment, give to others, are physically active, socialize with people who make them feel good, and spend money on experiences rather than things. So, come learn how improvisation can instantly increase your serotonin levels, get your heart rate up, and build feelings of gratitude, empathy and joy.
