Third Door County Aldo Leopold Weekend

The third Aldo Leopold Weekend Celebration in Door County will take place at Crossroads at Big Creek, Sturgeon Bay, on Saturday, March 7, 2009.

The event begins at 10 am with a few reading from Leopold’s Sand County Almanac. A video, Aldo Leopold: A Prophet for All Seasons will be shown at 10:30 am. Following will be an open discussion period until noon. There will be a lunch on your own break from noon to 1:30 pm. The public is asked to bring reading from Aldo Leopold and other nature writers to share from 1:30 pm to about 3 pm.

“This will be an informal time of readings by community members. Everyone is welcome to participate,” event organizer Nancy Rafal stated.

The original Leopold event was held in Lodi, WI on March 4, 2000. In 2004 Governor James Doyle designated the first weekend in March every year as Aldo Leopold Weekend in the State of Wisconsin. Last year more than 20 Wisconsin communities celebrated Leopold Weekend with a variety of activities and festivals. This year Door County can once again add its voice in commitment to Leopold’s ideals.
