The Art of Screenwriting at Write On

What could be better on a cold winter evening than a comfortable chair, a warming beverage and listening to poetry? On Jan. 16, 6 pm, Write On will present a reading by contributors to the anthology Through This Door: Wisconsin in Poems. It’s a chance to travel the state without leaving home and to hear poets including Wisconsin’s poet laureate, Margaret Rozga; Madison’s poet laureate, Angela Trudell Vasquez; and Door County’s own poet laureate, Nancy Rafal. The reading is free, but registration is required.

Are you a fiction writer or novelist looking for a new approach to your stories? Discover how the techniques screenwriters use can enhance your fiction. Jeff Pfeiffer – a playwright, television writer and instructor with more than 10 years of experience in entertainment writing – will lead a special three-hour workshop Jan. 16. It will be an inspiring introduction to the world of screenwriting for writers at all levels, movie fans and anyone interested in the art of telling stories.

Concluding their residencies at Write On this week are Wisconsin fiction writers Andrea Lochen and Jill Stukenberg. Lochen worked on a novel about a doctor who buys a house inhabited by the ghost of a young man only she can see. Stukenberg had been scheduled for an early-June residency, which was canceled because of the pandemic. She focused on a fiction project during her time with us.
