Festivals and Celebrations

Shanty Days (August 9-11) 

Head to Crescent Beach, Algoma this weekend for the 33rd annual Shanty Days celebration. Algoma’s “celebration of the lake” includes a parade, car cruise, juried arts and crafts fair, food, 5k, beack volleyball tournament, pool tournament, fishing contest, fireworks and live music by Johnny Wad, Spicy Tie Band, and Spice. Washington Island Music Festival Finale (August 9, 7:30 pm)

Enjoy selections from Nather, Holst, Schoenfield and Thompson at the “Friday Finale with the Festival Chorus,” held at Trueblood Performing Arts Center. Read more>>

Door County Festival of Fine Arts (August 10, 10 am – 5 pm)

Stop by Waterfront Park in Sister Bay for demonstrations and art for sale by Door County’s finest artists. The festival also features live music and hands on art activities for all ages. Read more>>

German Festival (August 10, 10 am – 3 pm)

Explore German history and indulge in German foods during German Festival at Heritage Village at Big Creek. The festival also includes live German music, blacksmithing demonstrations, silk dying and knapping. Read more>>

Door County Sports and Classic Car Show (August 10, 10 am – 3 pm)

Visit Harbor View Park in Egg Harbor for visions of sleek sports cars and vintage classic cars. Stick around for judging events, live music and more. Read more>>

Maritime on Madison (August 10, 10 am – 5 pm)

Enjoy a family-friendly day of live entertainment, food, children’s activities, and more on Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront. Read more>>

Annual Door County Classic and Wooden Boat Festival (August 10-11, 10 am – 6 pm)

The entire family can take in beautiful classic and wooden boats and enjoy watching the two person team boat building and racing Sikaflex event. Events take place at the Door County Maritime Museum. Read more>>

Jacksonport Sesquicentennial Celebration (August 10, 2:30-10 pm)

Come by Lakeside Park to celebrate Jacksonport’s 150th birthday with live music by Jerry Voelker, old fashioned yard games, bounce houses, beverage tent, and fireworks. Town taxpayers will receive a complimentary picnic supper. Guests may eat for $5 per plate. Read more>>

Peninsula Music Festival (August 10, 7:30 pm)

Door Community Auditorium will host Roderick Cox as guest director and Timothy McAllister on saxophone. “American Greats” features pieces by Barber, Adams, Walker and Copland. Read more>>

Fireworks on Sturgeon Bay (August 10)

Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club will open to the public to watch fireworks, beginning at dusk. Read more>>

Outdoor Activities 

Potawatomi Programs (August 9)

At 4 pm, learn about the Great Lakes and interact with a cool watershed model during “What’s a Watershed?” From 7-8 pm, join the park naturalist at the Community Campfire. Read more>>

Whitefish Dunes Programs (August 10)

From 10 am – 12 pm, join a 1.5 mile guided hike to the top of Wisconsin’s tallest sand dune, Old Baldy. From 1-3 pm, learn to identify trees of Whitefish Dunes State Park. Read more>>

Universe in the Park at Peninsula State Park (August 10)

Join astronomers from the UW-Madison Astronomy Program for an evening of exploring the universe. There will be a short presentation, and then some time looking through the telescope at the night sky. Program begins at dusk at Nicolet Beach. Read more>>

Glaciers Lecture at Crossroads at Big Creek (August 9, 2 pm)

Learn how the glaciers influence the cultural history of the Door Peninsula. Free and open to the public. Read more>>

Vintage Market (August 10, 10 am – 2 pm)

An outdoor flea market of vintage and estate items, located at the Liberty Grove Historical Museum Site. Read more>>

Buckets of Rain at Woodwalk Gallery (August 9, 5:30 pm doors open, 7 pm show). Eric Lewis, Jeanne Kuhns, Katie Dahl, Chris Irwin, Rich Higdon and Pat Palmer reunite to pay tribute to Bob Dylan in a revue that has become one of the peninsula’s favorite concert traditions. $20/person. Read more>>
