This Weekend in Door: Fall Challenge, AleFest & Wet Whistle Wine Fest

Peninsula Century Fall Challenge

The annual cycling event will take 700 riders along rustic roads and scenic vistas in Northern Door. Riders begin at Waterfront Park in Sister Bay where they will embark on a 25, 50, 62 or 100 mile. Riders return to a meal from Thyme Catering, a beer from One Barrel or kombucha from Tapuat Kombucha, and a dessert from Seaquist Orchards and Door County Ice Cream Factory. Egg Harbor AleFest

The Egg Harbor AleFest is Enjoy craft beers from from 1-5 pm (last call is at 4:30 pm) in Harbor View Park. Fest goers will be able to sample more than 100 different craft beers from 40 different brewers. Complimentary trolley transportation will be available from 11am-7pm to/from Egg Harbor lodging establishments, restaurants and AleFest grounds. Live music is from noon – 4pm by Brass Differential. Wet Whistle Wine Fest

On Friday and Saturday, Wet Whistle Wine Fest is taking place at von Stiehl Winery in Algoma. Join in the fun and taste award-winning wines, a grape stomp, hearty sandwiches, & live music! This Wet Whistle Wine Fest is a fundraiser for the Community Improvement of Algoma, and the Algoma Fire and Rescue. Come out to support these great non-profit organizations of Algoma!

Get Outside!

Ridges Sanctuary and Door Count Brewery partnered up to offer Swales and Ales on Sept. 14. Explore the Ridges Sanctuary with Ridges naturalists and discover what plants in and around Door County can be used to create different flavor profiles when brewing beer. After walking the ridges, the group will head over to the Door County Brewing Co. to learn about the beer making process. 

Take a hike: with a docent guide at The Clearing in Ellison Bay; with a naturalist at Newport State Park; or during a full moon.

Theater

“George Washington’s Teeth” is at Peninsula Players, “Tomfoolery” is at Third Avenue Playhouse and “Dad’s Season Tickets” is at Northern Sky’s Gould Theater.

Live Music

Cathy Grier and The Troublemakers will headline a show at Door Community Auditorium.

See the one-of-a-kind Omega Double Keyboard Piano built by Peter Nehlsen of Washington Island. The performance at Birch Creek will feature Jodie DeSalvo and Nicholas Towns of Lawrence University.

Catch an Academy of Country Music Award wining songwriter, Chuck Cannon, at Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Washington Island. Cannon’s compositions include multiple hit singles for Toby Keith, Victoria Shaw and John Michael Montgomery.

Stop by Silver Creek Art Festival in Algoma for a one-day family friendly art festival with unique, hand-made items created by local artists and artisans. With live bluegrass music, food, fun, and face painting for the kids.

Or, go on the Contemporary Art Gallery Tour. Four receptions will run concurrently at Martinez Studio, Idea Gallery, Cappaert Contemporary Gallery and Bazyli Studio. See the latest work from represented artists.
