Tom Davis Book Launch Sept. 14 on Washington Island

In the Unsettled Homeland of Dreams, the newest book from Sturgeon Bay author Tom Davis, is a historical fiction piece set on Washington Island in the 1800s. To launch the novel, Davis will read from it at Fair Isle Books, 1885 Detroit Harbor Road on Washington Island, on Sept. 14, 1 pm. After the reading, Davis will sign books and answer questions until 3 pm. Refreshments will be served. A central character is the black preacher Tom Bennett, who resides in West Harbor in a black fishing community. A veteran of the War of 1812, Bennett is described in historical documents as someone people would travel to hear. The novel follows a dramatic journey starting in Missouri and ending with the community’s abrupt disappearance over the water. Names familiar to islanders – Jesse Miner, Henry Miner and Joel Westbrook – appear in the novel.
