Tom Sawyer Named to Football All-Conference Team

After a season that saw the Ripon College football team finish 5-5 with wins in five of their final six games, the Red Hawks received five selections to the 2012 All-Conference team, including Gibraltar graduate Tom Sawyer.

Sawyer, a junior quarterback, was named to the Second Team Offense as a running back. Sawyer makes his first-ever appearance on the All-Conference team after one of the most productive individual seasons in Ripon College football history. The Egg Harbor native became the 10th Ripon player to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season, gaining 1,045 yards, which ranks ninth in school history for a single season. Sawyer also scored 16 touchdowns on the year, which ranked third in the Midwest Conference (MWC) and is tied for the third-highest single season total in school history.

Sawyer’s 5.6 yards per carry is the second-highest single season rushing average by a quarterback in MWC history. In addition to his rushing prowess, Sawyer also completed 51-of-119 passes (51.3 percent) for 699 yards and three touchdowns. He led the team in both scoring (96 points) and total offense (1,744 yards).

Other All-Conference honorees from Ripon include offensive lineman Tyler Jonas, running back Max Herrmann, kicker Jacob Gahart and defensive back Luke Morgan.
