Top 5 Things NOT to do at a Theater Performance

5. If you need to leave the theater to use the restroom during the show, do it during a scene change. Do not get up and climb over everyone in your row in the middle of Romeo wooing Juliet on the balcony.

4. No photographs of the stage really means NO PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE STAGE. You, with the flash on in the darkened theater, we can see you. You are not subtle.

3. Smuggling food into the theater, then spilling it everywhere. You’re the reason for the “no food” rule in the first place.

2. Talking loudly to whomever you came with during the show. Commentary and personal opinions are good to save for the drive home, or intermission.

1. Turn off your cell phone. This does not mean, “vibrate.” Vibrating phones are not silent phones, and can still disrupt the viewing pleasure of those around you. If your phone does happen to ring, silence it immediately. Don’t pretend like it isn’t you, it’s bad form. These days, most theaters give a reminder at the beginning of the show to silence cell phones, so listen up and turn ‘em off!
