Mark Murphy

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) will host their annual investors meeting and luncheon on April 25 at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. The keynote speaker will be Mark Murphy, President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers. His remarks will be addressing “Building and Sustaining a Winning Tradition.”

In addition to the keynote address by Murphy, the annual investors meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The luncheon meeting will also include the annual report to the community about the accomplishments of DCEDC during 2011.

Murphy, possessor of extensive experience in professional football and sports administration, is in his fourth year as the Packers’ President and CEO. Under his guidance, the organization reached the pinnacle of success on the field in 2010 with a victory in Super Bowl XLV. Off the field, the club continues to perform well in its business operations, which allows the organization to support football operations.

• The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) is accepting nominations for the 2012 Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) of the year award through April 9.

This year will mark the second year the award will be presented to an area CTA for their exemplary customer service to Door County’s visitors. Last year, CTA Yvonne Torres was recognized with the honor.

Over 400 CTAs have been trained in Door County since the DCVB began the local program back in 2009. The local CTA program is part of a national curriculum that trains frontline tourism workers and volunteers on such things as customer service, destination knowledge and area tourism resources with the ultimate goal of turning every visitor encounter into a positive experience.

All nominees must be current Door County CTAs and nominations from employers, co-workers or customers are welcome. Self-nominations are also encouraged. • Staudenmaier Chiropractic Wellness Center in Sturgeon Bay congratulate Carrie Starr on obtaining her Certified Personal Training Degree.

Starr is a graduate of Southern Door High School and Wisconsin Sports and Fitness Association where she earned her certification. She will assist Dr. Luke Staudenmaier in the health care management of Staudenmaier Chiropractic’s practice members.

The center also announced the addition of massage therapy into their practice. Licensed Massage Therapist Kelly Brath specializes in therapeutic, relaxation and prenatal massage.

• Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA is seeking applications for grants to help rural businesses create jobs and spur economic development.

“This funding is part of the Obama administration’s commitment to using existing federal resources to foster regional innovation, create sustainable jobs and help ensure long-term prosperity,” Vilsack said. “The funding will speed up job creation and new business start-ups and expansions by building regional economic systems in rural areas.

USDA Rural Development plans to award up to $8.6 million through the Rural Community Development Initiative program.
