Top Shelf Owners Buy Fish Creek Market

As of April 8, Fish Creek Market has been purchased by the brother-sister duo of John Seiberlich and Anne Alberts from previous owners, Michael and Jeanne Hyde. Located in the heart of Fish Creek, Fish Creek Market has been a staple in the community for nearly 120 years and serves as one of the longest continuously operating grocery stores in the U.S. They will open their doors under new ownership for the first time on May 1, 2014. John’s son, Bryan, has been named general manager.

One of the most popular items sold at the Fish Creek Market, the deli sandwiches affectionately known as “Norzwiches” after their creators, former owners Gary and Ann Norz, will not be changing. Originally created as a low-cost meal for seasonal workers who were often strapped for cash, the Norzwich has become a Door County tradition for locals and tourists alike. “We wouldn’t dream of messing with the Norzwich. The Norzwich will be the Norzwich for years to come,” said Anne Alberts.

John and Anne are also the current owners of Top Shelf Café and Gourmet, a specialty grocery store located in Sister Bay. “We’re very much looking forward to being a part of the tradition of the Fish Creek Market. The history of the building and the business is something we take a lot of pride in and we look forward to continue serving the community,” says John.
