Tough Opening Loss for Destroyers

The Door County Destroyers football team came up short Saturday, June 2, as they lost to the Rockton Rush by a score of 9-6.

The Destroyers went up 6-0 in the second quarter thanks to a 45-yard touchdown pass from Marcos Alfaro Jr. to Carmelo Velazquez. The Rush secured a safety in the third quarter and cemented their victory with a one-yard touchdown run late in the game.

Standout performers:  Carmelo Velazquez – 2 catches for 62 yards and 1 touchdown; Bryan Beachler – 9 tackles, 2 for loss and 1 sack; BJ Graves – 5 tackles, 4 for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble; Craig Polifka – 2 tackles, 1 deflection and 1 interception.

The Destroyers are home again Saturday, June 9, as they host the Chi City Ducks.
