Tour LEED Platinum Home in Sister Bay

Everyone interested in learning how to build a highly sustainable, energy-efficient home is invited to attend the first of four educational open houses for what will be Door County’s third LEED Platinum home. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an international program designed by the U.S. Green Building Council to create, build, and test energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings. Platinum is the highest level of achievement.

This home, located at 10204 Kinsey Bay Lane in Sister Bay (on the Lake Michigan shore), will be open to the public from 10 am until 2 pm on Aug. 19. The home was designed by Virge Temme Architecture of Sturgeon Bay, and is being built by Ahnapee Construction of Algoma.

The Aug. 19 open house will focus on elements such as proper solar orientation, sealing and insulating of mechanicals and advance framing techniques. Future open houses will focus on insulation techniques, environmentally sound materials, and proper sizing and design of mechanical systems.

There are currently only 17 single-family homes in Wisconsin that have qualified as LEED homes, and only seven have achieved the Platinum rating.

There is no charge to tour the home, although free-will donations will be accepted to support the Climate Change Coalition of Door County.
