by JULIE GILBERT, President and CEO, Destination Door County
As we continue to work to communicate the story of Door County – its history, arts, culture, community and residents – we are thrilled to announce the first Art in the Door contest, which will celebrate the beauty and sentiment that Door County inspires in local artists.
The winners will each receive $2,000 for their original work, inclusion in Door County marketing throughout the year, and the chance to appear in our artist-focused video series.
As part of our 2023 Feelings creative campaign, started earlier this year, we are looking for submissions of two-dimensional artwork centered on a certain mood that Door County inspires. These feelings include tranquility, charm, enchantment and awe. The landscape, people and ambience of Door County should be used as inspiration for submitted works that reflect the essence of the word.
Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 pm on April 23 at DoorCounty.com/artinthedoor. A jury will choose eight finalists, and a public vote will then select the four winners.
We are extremely lucky to have such a diverse group of talented artists who call this place home and look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with many of them to share the Door County experience and stories through their unique creative lens. I invite you to get in touch with your friends, family and neighbors to let them know about this contest and encourage them to enter their work.
The arts have a long history of bringing people together and increasing understanding across many boundaries, which encourages community well-being. Our artists, along with our arts and cultural community, are important resources to help us build more connections throughout Door County. As a community collaborator, we want to help raise that awareness to help balance the Door County economy that ensures our long-term sustainability and vibrancy.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions to help us continue growing in a positive direction.
