Town Board Considers Ordinances, Names New Committee Members

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Town Board has approved an ordinance which would prohibit parking on the north side of Hill Road from Spring Road to Ecology Sports/Base Camp.

• A new Utility Ordinance was approved to bring the town into compliance with DNR requirements.

• The conditional use permit for a proposed RV campground on the Hocker Excavating site was sent back to the Plan Commission for further consideration and more specifics on the proposal.

• Ordinance 9-08 has also been updated and replaced with clarifications on several points. The ordinance deals with how the Town Board, Committees and Commissions conduct their meetings. Persons addressing the board on a specific agenda item that have pertinent information will now be allowed additional time upon consensus of the board. Section 7 of the ordinance sets a time limit of three minutes for persons to address the board during Public Input.

• The board approved proposed committee members to the special Niagara Escarpment Interpretive Center Committee. Supervisor Goss presented the Board with a three tiered committee structure as follows:

Tier 1(Regional Consultants): Eric Fowler, director of the Niagara Escarpment Resource Network; Dr. Joanne Kleussendorf, geology professor and founding director of the Weis Earth Science Museum; Charles Shabica, Ph.D. PG, retired geology professor and chair of Earth Science Department Northeastern Illinois University and owner of Shabica Associates.

Tier 2 (Local Consultants): Bob Bultman, geologist and cave specialist; Terri Cooper, Land Program Director of the Door County Land Trust; Mariah Goode, director of Door County Planning Department; Roger Kuhns, geologist and ecologist; Steve Leonard, executive director of The Ridges Sanctuary; Paul Regnier, owner of Door County Nature and Travel and former executive director of The Ridges Sanctuary; Bill Schuster, geologist and director of the Door County Soil and Water Department; Ron Stieglitz, retired geology professor of the UWGB Department of Natural and Applied Earth Science Program.

Tier 3 (Liberty Grove): Nancy Goss, Lon Kopitzke, and Anne Miller.

• The Town Board approved the proposal from Baudhuin Inc. to develop engineering plans for Isle View Road.
