Town of Gibraltar Appoints New Board Member

During a special meeting June 7, the Gibraltar Town Board voted via secret ballot to appoint John Selenica to fill its vacant supervisor position.

With three votes from town board members, Selenica was the top vote-getter of the four candidates. The other three were Barb McKesson, Karl Stubenvoll and Pauline Vennell. Selenica ran for one of the two open supervisor seats during the 2023 spring election, but voters selected Tom Birmingham and Vinni Chomeau at that time.

Selenica was also appointed as a Plan Commission board member via a motion by Steve Sohns at the regular town board meeting that followed.

The two vacancies opened when Bill Johnson resigned from both boards on May 8 because, he said, he’s planning to move to Arizona this summer.

A Fish Creek resident as of 2017, Selenica is a retiree with 35 years of public-utilities experience. He has volunteered for Door County Habitat for Humanity, Door Community Auditorium, Northern Sky Theater, and Gibraltar Fire and Rescue, and he said he felt that this involvement in the community would make him an apt supervisor.

“I want to serve the community, and I feel that I’m a good asset to the board,” Selenica said.
