Town Takes Over Grand View Park

Welcome to “Notes from the Grove” providing information about Liberty Grove Town government to residents and visitors.

• The town has officially taken ownership of the Grand View Park property atop the Ellison Bay hill. Terry Cooper of the Door County Land Trust and Chairman Lowry signed the Warranty Deed document on November 30. Larry Gjada of Baylake Bank notarized the papers. The Land Trust will continue to work with the town on the development of the park. The town is also working with the Liberty Grove Historical Society on parking for the park.

• Supervisor Bob Tidball has resigned from the town board. He has been a hard working member of the board and his valuable input will be missed. By state statute the board and the town clerk decide on a replacement. One year remains on the term of office. In the past vacancies have been filled by interviewing interested persons. Several other options are also available, and the board will make its decision on how to proceed at the December 5 regular board meeting.

• The spring election is scheduled for April 2, 2013, with the primary election scheduled for February 19, 2013. Nomination papers may be circulated during December and must be turned into the town office no later than January 2, 2013. Non-candidacy papers need to be filled by December 21, 2012.

• Property tax bills should be in the mail. The town office will be open December 31 until 4 pm for those wishing to pay their taxes in 2012. The office will close at noon on December 24. It will be closed Christmas and New Years days.

• Milwaukee Public Television plans to have an April 8 screening premiere of an episode of Around the Corner with John McGivern that focuses on the community of Northern Door County. The event is scheduled for the Liberty Grove Town Hall, which will be free and open to the public on the evening of Monday, April 8 (7 –8:30 pm). McGivern and his staff were in Northern Door this past fall doing interview and filming for the program. They held interviews with the following people: Jeff Weborg, Hoyt Purinton, Mary and Mike Mead, Norbert Blei, Jeni Tveten, Danny and Valerie Augusten, Bob Desh, Janice Thomas, Heather Laughlin, Kubet Luchterhand, Michelle Hefty and Paula Anschutz. The promo for his show on Milwaukee Public Television describes the show as “McGivern discovers the secrets to living well, working hard, and playing merrily in all of these hometowns.”
