Track Chair Donated to The Ridges Sanctuary

The grounds of The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor will be accessible in new ways now that Kinect M1 has donated an Action Trackchair. The motorized, all-terrain wheelchair will allow individuals who have mobility impairments, or who may not feel comfortable accessing a rustic trail, to explore The Ridges.

The Trackchair will be used for programs throughout the year and will be available starting in June. After going through a short safety checklist and training, individuals may take the Trackchair on designated trails.

“The Ridges is excited to implement Trackchair programming and have the chair available for reservations,” said Anna Foster, The Ridges’ environmental interpreter. “The Ridges is committed to furthering accessibility to the sanctuary by providing opportunities for all individuals to access nature.”

The donation follows two Trackchair open-access days that The Ridges hosted with Kinect M1 in November for community members who could not otherwise experience the beauty of the Family Discovery Trail.

“It’s incredible to see people experience it for the first time,” said Adam Peronto, executive project director at Kinect M1. “It opens doors for people who have never been on a trail before, or down a beach, or deep in the woods.”

The Trackchair will be available by reservation on a first-come, first served basis on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting in June. Reservations must be made at least one week in advance. Reserve the Trackchair for individual use or group field trips online at ridgessanctuary.org or by phone at 920.839.2802.
