“Travel That Matters” Panel Presentation at UUF

“Travel with a purpose” is the focus of a “Travel That Matters” program being presented at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim on Sunday, October 18 at 2 pm. The program includes a panel of seven organizations that offer alternative and purposeful ways to travel.

The program hopes to assure participants that it is not necessary to be a traveling volunteer in order to promote peace and to deepen cultural appreciation. Over half of the organizations focus on “feel good” ways to travel, with the other organizations having a more hands-on focus on travel, ranging from a continuum of moderate challenges to catapulting experiences that have a transformative possibility.

Nancy Mitchell, National Board Chair of SERVAS International, along with her husband, Bob, retired instructor of Cultural Awareness, will present on behalf of SERVAS, Earthwatch and Friendship Force. Cedarburg artist Jean Crane will speak about Global Volunteers, an organization she has traveled with ten times. Door County residents Phyl Mielke and Meg and David Vermillion will present on behalf of UU Bed and Breakfasts, Untours and Global Citizens Network.

All presenters will be speaking from their personal experience with an organization and will explain why they chose the ones they did. The presenters will also cover how tax deductibles can be incentives for considering a trip. All the organizations do have the common thread of being welcoming to singles, couples, families and intergenerationals.

The program is free and open to the public, and will end with samples of savory global snacks and drinks. For more information, visit http://www.uufdc.org.
