Tree Removal on Isle Road to Begin March 19

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• Townline Timber Services has been contracted to do additional tree removal on Isle View Road in preparation for the reconstruction of the road scheduled for this year. WPS will be relocating power poles as well and will employ the services of Asplundh Tree Experts to assist with any limbs or trees near power lines. The work is scheduled to begin March 19. Baudhuin Inc of Sturgeon Bay has surveyed the road marking the right of way. A pre-construction meeting will be scheduled with residents affected by the reconstruction to inform them of the schedule and what to expect during the reconstruction.

• The Town of Liberty Grove will participant in Shred Fest with the Village of Sister Bay on June 2. It is the same day that the Computer and Electronics Recycling will be held at the Town Hall with Sister Bay residents invited to participate. The Shred Fest will be held in Sister Bay. Please check town and village websites for details.

• County Board representative Dave Lienau informed the board that Nsight Telservices has indicated they hope to have the fiber optic cable installed to Gills Rock by March of 2013. From there the plans call for the cable to cross the bay of Green Bay to the Michigan shoreline to complete a loop from Green Bay. Lienau also reported that Door County Emergency Services are being cited as a model for county or regional emergency services in Wisconsin.

• March is proving to be a very special month for Liberty Grove and Door County. The Door County Land Trust has purchased the hill at Ellison Bay known as Grand View and will turn that land over to the town to be preserved as a town park. The location is the highest elevation of the Niagara Escarpment in the US. The town has been working with the Land Trust on plans for the park. In addition, the town and the Liberty Grove Historical Society are working together on parking and access to the park from the historical society site.

• Weight limit restrictions are in effect as of March 5, 2012 for various roads in Liberty Grove. Restrictions are lifted after spring thaw conditions improve. Watch for signs or call our office to find out if a specific road falls under the restrictions.

• A reminder that the Spring Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3 with in person absentee voting beginning March 19.

• The Annual Town Meeting will be held April 10.

• Janet Johnson provides us with some interesting fun facts from town archives. On April 4, 1950 a motion was made and seconded to purchase a new grader with scarifier for between $2,000 and $3,000 and cashing in war bonds owned by the town should pay for half of it.

On July 11, 1927 the Town Board granted permission to WPS to construct and operate along town roads for the purpose of transmitting light and power to the residents.
