Triathlon, Kites and more this Weekend in Door County (July 15-17)

The county will be inundated with amazing athletes this weekend for the Door County Triathlon this weekend. The triathlon features three events over two days for nearly 1,800 athletes age 6 to age 80, all starting and finishing at Frank Murphy County Park in Egg Harbor. It all starts with the Sprint Triathlon Saturday morning, when all events take place on Bay Shore Drive.

On Saturday afternoon some of the bravest young athletes take on the Kids Tri (free entries still available!), then on Sunday the big dogs hit the water in the Half Iron race. That’s a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and a 13.1-mile run. For those not participating, expect some traffic impacts in Sturgeon Bay in the morning, then in Egg Harbor primarily around mid-day through mid-afternoon.

Sister Bay Kite Day

The first Kite Day comes to Sister Bay Saturday. Fliers from the Wisconsin Kiters Club will be on hand flying kites as long as 30 feet long. Plus 100 kite kits available for kids to build their own kites and test their flying skills. It all takes place at the Sister Bay Sports Complex. More info here>>

Kewaunee/ Door County Salmon Tournament

If you notice a lot more boat trailers and fishing boats in the coming days, there’s a good reason. The 40th Kewaunee/ Door County Salmon Tournament gets underway this Friday. The 10-day tournament is the largest salmon-only contest on the Great Lakes and attracts more than 3,000 anglers.
