Tribute to Dave Brubeck at DCA

On Oct. 12, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will host the dynamic jazz ensemble the Brubeck Brothers Quartet (BBQ) as they present their Tribute to Dave Brubeck.

The BBQ celebrates the spontaneity and tradition of jazz in this tribute to the late, great Dave Brubeck, father of two Quartet members. This captivating performance features many of the elder Brubeck’s trademark and lesser-known tunes, all suffused with the Quartet’s dedication to melody, rhythm and the extemporaneous spirit of jazz.

All About Jazz writes of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet: “The BBQ attains that rarefied level where music is both relaxed and expressive, and their joy in its creation is contagious. There’s really nothing out there that comes close to their unique brand of inventiveness.”

The BBQ is comprised of Daniel Brubeck (drums) and Chris Brubeck (bass and trombone). Guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb round out this dynamic jazz ensemble. Although the Quartet’s style is rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz, their performances reveal an inherent ability to explore odd time signatures while naturally integrating the influences of funk, blues and world music.

The Quartet’s most recent CD, Life Times, is the group’s recorded tribute to Dave Brubeck, featuring many of his tunes updated with the BBQ’s creative spin.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will perform at 7 pm. Tickets for the concert range from $22 to $46. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Hwy. 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday to Friday, 12 – 5 pm.
