Trottin’ Time: Get ready to run this Thanksgiving

For many, next Thursday, Nov. 25, will be a time to gather with family or friends, share a meal and reflect on what they’re thankful for. For others, it will be all of those things plus a chance to lace up their running shoes for one last cool-weather run before the snow falls. If you’re in the latter category, you’ll have two opportunities to try for a new personal best on Thanksgiving.

One option is the first annual Ellison Bay Gobble Wobble, a 2.5-mile fun run that starts and ends at Fitzgerald Park. All registered runners will receive a finisher’s mug with a choice of Bloody Mary, coffee or hot chocolate, and participants can head to the Mink River Basin, 12010 Hwy 42 in Ellison Bay, for a post-run party. Registration is $10 per person. Kids 12 and younger are free and do not require registration.

Also on Nov. 25 is the Northern Door Turkey Trot and Dog Jog, which starts at the Sister Bay Athletic Club, 10581 Country Walk Lane, Unit 9, and offers the choice of a one-mile or 5K run. Costumes are encouraged, and leashed dogs are invited to run with their humans. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation in Green Bay, and for the Northern Door Children’s Center in Sister Bay. Hot cocoa, tea and coffee will be available.

“It has been such a fun event in the past, and I’m pretty excited to bring the community back together again for some fitness prior to the feast,” said Trish Araujo of the Door County Fitness Studio. “It is a family-friendly event. We have indoor options at both gyms if someone doesn’t want to be outside or is not as steady on their feet. We just want to promote community and movement.”
