Turtle Ridge Gallery Showcases Butterfly and Moth Series

This series is a fanciful exploration of the mimicry and camouflage that butterfly and moth species – in both their caterpillar and winged stages – use to protect themselves against predators.

Mary Ellen Sisulak has used unusual mixed media to paint jewel-like moths and butterflies and placed them in richly textured habitats. She’s rendered native species such as the emperor moth, giant leopard moth and black swallowtail in detail and has complemented them with shadow-box frames and stones such as agates, onyx and crystals.

Turtle Ridge Gallery, 11736 Mink River Road in Ellison Bay, is open daily, 10 am – 5 pm. Call 920.854.4839 or visit maryellensisulak.com to find out more.
