Two Drummers. Two Deejays. Five MCs.

Brick Lot Pub bar manager Brad Hunsader has been in the nightclub industry for the past 17 years, so it’s no surprise that he has seen just about every live musical collaboration and hodgepodge event that there is to see. Key words: just about.

On Friday, Hunsader will see a project he dreamt up with a friend two years ago come to life, in which two drummers face off against two DJs and five MCs. Hunsader himself will be one of the two DJs (along with Christopher Scheer, of WIFEE and the HUZzBAND), joined by drummers Zach Vogel (Elastik Waste Banned) and Marcus Trana, and MCs SPADE ONE, Scott Walkert, M.C. Swiggz, M.C. Skillz and J. Bone. All together, the nine have more than 125 years of experience in nightclubs.

“I personally have never seen this done,” Hunsader said. “Let’s just have as much fun as possible. If we’re having fun, that’s going to direct towards everybody else. Basically if you’re a music fan, you’re going to enjoy this because we’re not just going to stick to one style.”

The format will be similar to an open jam – none of the participants have rehearsed together, or at all, but will feed off one another to get the energy going.

“It’s almost like a big old four-hour open jam type thing,” Hunsader said. “We didn’t rehearse any of this. We’re [the DJs] going to play some melodies, they’re going to play some drums, and the MCs are going to freestyle the whole night.”

The night will encompass a range of genres from the past five decades, from 1960s rock to hip hop to electronic.

“We can run through eight different genres on this and that’s what we’re going to do,” Hunsader said. “It’s basically something new, something different not only in Sturgeon Bay but we’re adding different musicians coming together to play different styles of music.”

The night will kick off at 9:30pm on Friday, Jan. 30 at Brick Lot Pub, 253 N. Third Ave. in Sturgeon Bay.
